She does volunteer work for several local/national organizations working on governance issues, legislative advocacy/legal reforms, sex trafficking and women’s rights, peace and security issues, among others. At present, she is the Country Coordinator of the Philippine Women’s Network on Peace & Security, which is affiliated, with the international network of Women for Genuine Security.
Aida F. Santos-Maranan has been a women’s rights/gender advocate since the early 1980s in the Philippines. She is a member of the international organization called Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID); a national network of gender advocates and consultants, the Gender Resource Network (GRN), and the Board of Directors for ISIS International-Manila.
As a co-founder of the legislative network of civil society organizations and women’s groups called SIBOL or Sama-Samang Inisyatiba para sa Pagbabago ng Batas at Lipunan (Collective Initiatives for Transforming Law and Society), she had been an active participant of the core group that drafted and lobbied for the passage of laws on rape, violence against women, and anti-trafficking. She has served as training consultant to various government institutions and local and international NGOs.
