Sandra B. Torrijos, renowned feminist artist, has been called “an artist of synergies”. Her last exhibit was called Divine Fusion (Conspiracy Bar, March 2006), organized by SARILAYA and WEDPRO in celebration of International Women’s Month.
Fresh from her stay in Germany where she painted and mounted exhibitions, Sandra now returns and bursting with energy, she has offered to do a four-session series of arts workshop this July until August 2008.
Sandra has mounted 10 solo exhibitions since 1987 and joined at least 14 group exhibitions in Italy, Germany, Japan, the United States and the Philippines. A multi-awarded artist, Sandra is a recipient of the prestigious Thirteen Artists Awards by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and a grand awardee of the V-Day Stop Rape Contest sponsored by Equality Now (New York). She has received various accolades from national and international award-giving bodies. Sandra has been included in the CCP Encyclopedia of the Arts.
Metamorphosing from an artist whose images embodied the sorrows of women's journeys in her wrapped images in the 1980s, Sandra has since then blossomed into an artist that paints, draws and sculpts the diverse pathways of women in colors and forms that have as well recorded her own story as a woman and artist — celebrating lives in all its dimensions and using various media. She teaches fine arts at the Kalayaan College and obtained her degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines. Sandra pursues her art in the Philippines and Germany.
Sandra's work is currently part of the TRANSMISSIONS : UP Artists and the CCP 13 Artists Awards exhibit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
